Auspicious Bok Choy Hoops
Sublima's Auspicious Bok Choy Hoops boast bulbous stems, spindly veins and wavy ruffled leaves, creating an abstract and artful rendition of the beloved Chinese vegetable. In Cantonese, ‘bok’ means ‘hundred’ and ‘choy’ means ‘wealth,’ so the phrase is a homophone. Hence, the delectable cabbage is known in Chinese culture as a symbol of good luck and fortune.
These earrings are the second installment in Sublima's "Water Banquet" series - a mini-collection of jewelry inspired by culinary delicacies that symbolize food at the heart of Asian American culture, identity, love, family and union.
To celebrate Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, the Auspicious Bok Choy Hoops are a manifestation and talisman of pride in Asian ethnicity, identity and culture in this time of rising anti-Asian racism and violence.
Handcrafted in New York with love, the Bok Choy Hoops were originally carved in wax, then cast in brass and polished by hand.
